Paddy Power Bookies Review

Visit Paddy PowerPaddy Power Bookies may be Ireland’s biggest and most prosperous bookmaker, but that is because they are actually one of the best UK and European-focused online bookmakers.

The rise and rise of this sports betting company shows no sign of stopping, mainly because they give such good customer service and range of betting events.

The financials tell the story of this publically-listed companies growth. In 2005 they reported a pre-tax profit of over €31million. By 2009, the pre-tax profit figure had doubled to €66 million, and that was a relatively disappointing year compared with the profits achieved in 2008. Nowadays they are into the billions.

The firm has an impressive retail division with over 300 shops in Ireland, including five at racecourses. They also have a significant retail operation in the UK with over 120 premises including some prestigious London addresses ranging from The North Colonnade at Canary Wharf to Fulham. They boast Ireland’s largest telephone sportsbook (Dial A Bet).

The online business includes sports betting, games, casino, bingo and financial spread betting.

Paddy Power bookies are a publicly quoted company listed on the UK and Irish stock exchanges. The company was founded back in 1988 when three ‘main street’ independent, Irish bookmakers pooled their resources to form this one firm.

In 2000, they launched the interactive online website and will be the first to admit that all did not go smoothly from day one. Today, after considerable investment and constant efforts to improve the quality of the online customer experience, its successful website is responsible for a large percentage of the firm’s annual turnover.

From the very beginning, the firm had its own distinctive take on gambling and gaming, viewing these activities as being positioned within the entertainment and leisure industry. Today, the business describes itself as offering ‘risk-based entertainment’. They aim to provide punters with enjoyment as well as good value, generous odds and good service.

Why bet with Paddy Power Bookies?

Our review’s opinion is that they are no longer just an obvious choice for punters in the Emerald Isle. The company is particularly keen to grow its business elsewhere. While you may not be especially impressed that the firm has recently made strategic alliances with French and Australian betting providers to penetrate new markets abroad, you will certainly be able to benefit from their excellent service for all UK and European clients. Please check our home page for any welcome bonus offers that might be available.

There are also a wide range of money-back offers for both new and existing customers. The money-back and other promotions change on a daily basis, so it is worth having a quick look at the homepage to see what is available.

Whilst Paddy Power is definitely not alone amongst bookies in offering best odds guaranteed on all Irish and UK horse racing and greyhound racing, it also provides the much less common Faller Insurance giving you the opportunity to get your money back if your horse comes to grief, an interesting proposition for ardent jump racing fans.

The Irish-based firm is perfectly candid about their focus on relatively low stake, fixed odds sports betting, but that doesn’t mean that there is not much else available. You will probably find markets that simply do not exist anywhere else. For example, in 2008, odds of 16/1 were on offer for President Barack Obama failing to finish his first term. For ‘failing to finish’ read assassinated! While this seems to be stretching ‘risk-based entertainment’ to a slightly uncomfortable level, it does mean an unparalleled choice of bets for punters. The firm is famous for all sorts of speciality bets, often with the apparent sole aim of getting some free publicity.

They have endeavoured to make using their website an enjoyable experience for punters. They offer visitors to their site the opportunity to download their unique toolbar. This gives users access to more than 50,000 RSS feeds and sports news, ranging from the Daily Star Sport News to a Racing Post blog and Irish Independent horse racing news. Having installed the toolbar, you can have your own personalised start page and toolbar ticker, and it doesn’t mean you will be bombarded with ads and pop ups. If you try it and don’t like it, it is easy to remove.

To conclude our review, they certainly have their own, distinctive approach to bookmaking and have managed to provide a unique offering to punters online. If you want to benefit from a generous new customer free bet or from consistent money back offerings, you should certainly pay Paddy Power Bookies a visit.

They stop you betting and close your account if you start winning.

Thanks for your review. Yes, Paddy Power are bad like that, but to be honest so are they all. Gambling Commission needs to stop this industry-wide problem.

Certainly the best of the Irish based bookmakers. If you start winning a lot though, they will start limiting you. Apart from that, they have a wide range of sports and a really easy website to get to grips with. It is no good for me anymore, but they do a mean line in enhanced odds offers for new players - some of them really are a nice sign-up incentive. I took advantage of one when I joined them.
